Shadow work is the practice of uncovering, embracing, and healing aspects of ourselves that we may not particularly like and keep hidden deep in our unconscious mind. These parts of ourselves that we try to forget are usually results of traumatic events, something we feel shame about and/or painful memories. We tend to bury these memories and feelings in our unconscious mind so we don’t have to experience them anymore (or so we think). Oftentimes whether we like it or not they play a big roll in how we react and behavior in certain situations or how we feel and think about ourselves in the present moment.
We all have a shadow self and it takes great strength and courage to face it. Acknowledging these areas you want to improve and loving yourself regardless will begin your journey to self acceptance. Each writing exercise will bring you a new awareness of who you are and bring you closer to becoming the person you want to be. And with that being said I am so proud of you for starting your shadow work journey.
